NEW Remote Learning: The Impact of Social Media and the Internet on Mental Health workshop
This interactive workshop will be aimed at providing practitioners with an awareness of how social media and the internet impacts upon mental health in both positive and negative ways from fostering social relationships, self-expression and identity to potentially destabilising self-image, increasing narcissism, anxiety and depression through cyber bullying and other harmful content. In particular the training will explore how social media intensifies concerns with self-identity that may give rise to a fragile sense of self and thereby encourage compensation into a culture of narcissism. Finally, the workshop will explore how online communication interacts with and can distort in-person communication, the potential presentations this may bring about in a therapeutic setting and the challenges for therapists in developing therapeutic relationships in the era of social media.
Presented by Kevin Fehin, Senior Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. Kevin is currently employed in the Adult Mental Health Service with the HSE. Among other qualifications he holds a Masters in Psychoanalytic Studies.
Suitable for: Psychologists, Mental health and Addiction Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Nurse Practitioners, Youth Workers, Social Care Workers
