Training Topics

Our workshops can be delivered in-person or remotely by our trainers. All of the training is interactive, with live discussions, question & answer sessions and skills practice.

Note for remote delivery: Attendees will be encouraged to have their cameras on during the training as this helps generate engagement and interaction with their trainer and other participants. If special circumstances mean that a participant may have to switch off their camera occasionally their camera please let us know in advance. It is not permitted to record a workshop.

Boundaries, Reflective Practice and Self-Care

Whether working from home or back at your usual place of work or in a hybrid arrangement, personal and professional boundaries may become blurred. This workshop provides an overview of boundaries and includes reflective practice and self-care as the three areas are closely linked. There is a strong emphasis on practical examples and best practice in managing boundaries.

Trauma Informed Practice workshop

The purpose of this two day training is to start a conversation about how trauma and adversity affects and has affected those who use the services we provide and the appropriate responses we can implement and offer.

This training is a practical application of relevant theory in relation to key working, care planning and case management.

An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing - 4th Edition

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centred approach that elicits behavioural changes by assisting individuals to explore and resolve ambivalence. This approach is especially helpful with individuals who are less motivated.

Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace

This workshop presents an overview of common mental health problems and it will enable participants to discuss and reflect on the common misconceptions regarding mental health difficulties. It aims to promote positive mental health and self-care in the workplace which has benefits for all.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness/ Substance Misuse

This training course will cover a range of areas to provide participants with a good basic knowledge of drugs and alcohol and related issues. The course aims to raise knowledge and awareness of drugs and alcohol both in relation to the family and in the wider community.

An Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Initially known as CBT for Borderline disorder, DBT consists of a series of skills and techniques for working with personality disorders and other areas. This course will explain the concept and would suit those considering becoming a DBT therapist or those referring clients or employees to a DBT service.

Advanced Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Workshop

Note: Participants are required to provide evidence of having completed an introductory course in DBT in order to join this workshop. DBT consists of a series of skills and techniques for working with personality disorders and other areas. This Advanced DBT course focuses on how to teach clients group skills, how to develop further on these skills in one to one sessions and how to help clients with any form of self-destructive behaviour.

Hidden Shame Workshop

This training focuses on Hidden Shame. Shame is often overlooked in the therapeutic process both within clients and therapists alike, and is frequently present in most presentations from trauma, complex abuse, addictions, compulsions, mood disorders and sexual behaviour.

Transgender Awareness Workshop

The aim of this interactive workshop is to enable participants to gain a practical understanding of best practices for working with trans people and their families.

An Introduction to Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused therapeutic approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Elements of the desired solution often are already present in the client's life, and become the basis for ongoing change.

Group Work and Facilitation Skills

Training for key personnel to enable them to become skilful group facilitators, helping groups to identify and solve problems and make decisions.

Record Keeping

The aim of this training is to raise workers’ knowledge and awareness of the basic concepts and skills involved in professional record keeping. The training will be a mix of theory and practice.

Providing Effective Feedback

As managers and people leaders we can be called upon to provide honest feedback to colleagues on areas that are working well and areas that need improvement. Providing feedback can be an opportunity to underpin existing strengths and to expand the reach of the worker. The process in which this is done is critical. This workshop will focus on how to give constructive feedback to members of your team.

Complex Trauma Workshop

This workshop will explore how developmental trauma may manifest in adult presentations, particularly physical, sexual and/or emotional trauma. Trauma will be defined via an understanding of how certain events have specific long term impact upon the body. The training will also highlight the long term impact of attachment trauma and provide appropriate interventions to engage with complex trauma.

Complex Trauma Intervention Skills

This workshop considers in depth how to work more directly with complex trauma. The workshop breaks down the key areas any best practice intervention package needs to address. Note: This workshop also serves as an introduction to complex trauma as there will be a brief revisiting of the major themes that define trauma and working as a trauma informed practitioner.

Working with Resentment

This workshop, delivered by Dr. Kevin Fehin will explore unresolved resentment and how it can soon grow into a character trait often expressed as bitterness, anger, defiance and resistance to change. Resentment often feels empowering to the individual despite at the same time creating a swamp life effect that then leaves the person stuck in this most challenging and chronic of emotions.

Attachment Styles workshop

The aim of the workshop is to assist practitioners in understanding and identifying the major attachment styles as they present in adults and how they inform interpersonal dynamics.

Grief, Loss and adjustment - theory and therapeutic interventions

Participants are introduced to the psychological dynamics involved in loss and adjustment experienced by children and adults and how best to intervene and develop therapeutic relationships that best maximise successful outcomes.

Personality Types and Disorders

Personality type is a key determinant in both how therapist and client bond therapeutically and in the nature of the presenting issue itself. This workshop will explore the dynamics of different personality types and how these individual differences need to be specially engaged with.

Understanding Narcissism - theory and practice

This workshop with Dr. Kevin Fehin will focus on providing participants with an understanding of narcissism, both traits and personality disorder.

Denial and Self-deception workshop

This workshop will focus on the use of denial as a defensive strategy against emotional pain in everyday life and in particular when pain relates to dealing with psychological trauma and addiction issues. An important goal of this workshop is to normalise and validate denial so we can help ourselves and clients recognise that it is a normal part of being human.

Working with people with Borderline Personality Disorder workshop

The purpose of this training session is to increase awareness and understanding of how Borderline Personality Disorder may affect an individual and the impact that this presentation can have on staff/teams who work with them.

Working with Guilt

This workshop will focus on the emotion of guilt and how childhood attachment can often create a guilt complex. Interpersonal symptoms of guilt such as submissiveness, obsessiveness, feelings of inferiority and constant states of doubt will be explored together with the self image of the person struggling with guilt.

Building Resilience to cope with Workplace Stress

This training is suitable for all organisations that wish to increase understanding of stress and resilience among their employees and to enhance their coping strategies and resiliency skills.

Harm Reduction

This training programme will cover the practical approaches to harm reduction and give a structured discourse on the pros and cons of harm reduction. “If a person is not willing to give up his or her drug use, we should assist them in reducing harm to himself or herself and others” (Bunning 1993).

Relapse Prevention

This training is designed to meet the needs of those working within the addiction field in relation to this area by following the Marlatt and Gordon model of relapse prevention and covering some practical applications of this model.

An Overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

The purpose of this training session in ASD is to enable team members to increase their own understanding and awareness of ASD particular to their client cohort, and to enhance their skills in working with the client who is experiencing an ASD and co-occurring/associated difficulties.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an approach that offers practical ways out of a negative thinking ‘loop’. This therapy is used to help people change thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are causing them problems.

An Introduction to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

This one day workshop delivered by Dr. Kevin Fehin aims to provide an introduction to the ideas and concepts involved in psychodynamic psychotherapy including transference and countertransference. It will explore attitudes, values and beliefs about human nature from a psychodynamic perspective and provide an understanding of psychopathology and presenting symptoms from this viewpoint.

NEW: The Psychodynamics of Eating Disorders workshop

This workshop delivered by Dr. Kevin Fehin, will explore the psychodynamics of eating disorders as it relates to a mental health diagnosis such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge-eating disorder. The training will refer to possible treatment options, with a specific emphasis on psychodynamic theory and practical strategies for supporting individuals struggling with disordered eating.
