Trauma Informed Practice workshop

This Trauma Informed Practice workshop aims to help people working in the provision of care to become trauma aware. The workshop does not train participants to become trauma therapists.

The purpose of this two day training is to start a conversation about how trauma and adversity affects and has affected those who use the services we provide and the appropriate responses we can implement and offer; to reflect on how others’ trauma experiences may affect those of us providing services – vicarious trauma and; to examine how we, as professionals, volunteers and peer workers, can embrace a trauma informed approach, including self-care, within our practice.

The course will allow you to interact with the trainer and other participants. In addition to the workshop content, there will be time built in for live discussions, question & answer sessions and skills practice. This workshop is suitable for delivery in-house to groups.

Participants should have some work experience.  Suitable for: Therapists and Counsellors (please note: this is not designed for experienced therapists), early childhood Educators and Care Professionals and those working in Social Care, Youth and Family Care, Nursing Practitioners, Addiction Services and Homeless Agencies.

This training is also suitable for those working with or meeting service users including support staff, reception staff, canteen staff, managers, Board of Management etc.

Members of The Psychological Society of Ireland and The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland can earn CPD points for participating in the workshop.

"I enjoyed that the workshop was a free, open, and safe space to learn and discuss TIP. You were never put under pressure to talk. A lot of humour peppered in helped to make the heavy content a lot lighter. I learned a lot about how to set boundaries with people who want to share trauma when it is not appropriate. I think it's important for all services in this sector."

Sadhbh McGarry, Resettlement Coordinator Tosú, December 2025

"Gary was an excellent facilitator. The balance of group work kept the workshop dynamic, and ensured everyone was engaged. He consistently drew on real-world examples and practical experience to bring the content to life, making it easy to translate the learning into real workplace situations. I found the workshop incredibly informative and eye-opening. The cross-service element was especially valuable, offering insight into the many avenues of support in the area and allowing us to hear a range of different perspectives. Overall, a very positive experience."

Adam Cassidy, HSE Soilse, November 2025

"The delivery of the training was excellent and tailored for all participants regardless of previous experience of trauma based programmes. Gary structured the training so it was easily understandable. He was open to questions and comments and was genuinely interested in participants' experiences. He encouraged an open forum which allowed for the sharing of experiences which was invaluable over the 2 days."

Michelle Glenn, Community Development Officer, Department of Social Protection, November 2025

"Firstly, the trainer Gary was a pleasure, very welcoming and friendly. He created a safe and calm space for all and had a good sense of humour which he intertwined nicely into his course deliverance. The training had a good balance of Gary delivering the content, and engaging exercises which enabled participants to practice what they had learned. There were plenty of opportunities for discussions and networking too. I left the training not only with a deeper understanding of trauma but also with practical skills. I would definitely recommend this training."
