Dr Claire Mc Moreland
Dr Claire Mc Moreland is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and a member of the Division of Neuropsychology. Claire completed her B.A. in Psychology in the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2005. She then completed a MSc in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology in the University of Swansea. Following several years working in the Maudsley Hospital in London as a Vocational Specialist, Claire completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in NUI Galway, graduating in 2014. She then went on to work as a Clinical Psychologist in Headway Acquired Brain Injury Services in Dublin, achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology during this time and progressing to the role of Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist. In the past number of years Claire has also worked in Psychiatry of Older Adults in the HSE and established her own Clinical Neuropsychology service in private practice. Claire continues to work in private practice and currently also in Beaumont Hospital as a Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist working with Motor Neuron Disease and Huntingtons Disease.
Claire has a broad range of experience working with groups and with adults presenting with concerns including anxiety, depression, grief and bereavement, trauma, and coping with and adjusting to life during and after illness. Claire has special expertise in the area of acquired brain injury (including post-concussion syndrome and stroke), having worked with survivors and their families for many years.
In working therapeutically, Claire’s aim is to provide evidence-based therapeutic support that fits with the particular needs of each person. Her approach is integrative, person-centred and non-judgemental. It is influenced by Compassion Focused Therapy, a therapeutic approach which focuses on the fostering of compassion towards the self and others, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and somatic informed approaches including polyvagal theory. Claire has a keen interest in the area of wellbeing and happiness, and completed her doctoral thesis on this topic. In her therapy work, Claire supports people to better understand their emotional experience and to work towards achieving greater overall wellbeing and happiness in life.
Claire is a guest lecturer on the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology in the National University of Ireland, Galway.
