This package of six modules will provide participants with the tools to enable them to manage mental ill health, substance misuse and stress issues more confidently in the workplace using an evidence based approach.

Mental Ill Health

The signs and symptoms of mental ill health

This workshop aims to increase understanding of mental health and how to recognise the signs of a mental health problem. It will also examine the frequent misconceptions regarding mental health difficulties and provide key facts.

Consolidation

Bring together the knowledge gained and embed learning

The final session will take place two weeks after the fifth module, when participants will have had the opportunity to use the knowledge gained and feedback with any questions and scenarios following the practice.

Stress & Resilience

Recognising stressors and enhancing resiliency

The workshop will explain the role of stress, the stages of stress management and how to identify stressors. It will provide guidance on how to build a personal resiliency plan and how to help colleagues to do so.

Mental Health Conversations

Appropriate conversations and how to provide support

This session will give guidance on how to respond sensitively and appropriately to a colleague who may be struggling with mental ill health. It will give an overview of the mental health system and how professional services are delivered and guidance on when professional support is necessary. Nurturing a culture of psychological safety and encouraging self-care will also discussed as a means of promoting positive mental health in the workplace.

Addiction Effects

Understanding Addiction and the effects of substance misuse

The aim of this workshop is to provide a good basic knowledge of drugs and alcohol and related issues both in relation to the individual and the wider community (i.e. colleagues). It also aims to underpin participant’s understanding of substances and their effects, both behaviourally and physically.

Addiction, How to Help

How to help proactively and when to signpost to professional services

This training provides advice and practical examples on how to tackle difficult conversations with people who may be actively using drugs and alcohol. The workshop aims to increase knowledge in relation to the different treatments available and when it is advisable to suggest professional intervention. The area of harm reduction and moderation as it relates to use/misuse of substances will be included.
