Drug and Alcohol Awareness/ Substance Misuse
This one day course will cover a range of areas to provide participants with a good basic knowledge of drugs and alcohol and related issues. It also aims to strengthen and underpin their understanding of substances and their effects.

Training Objectives:
1: To equip participants with some basic drug information and knowledge.
2: To build on and expand existing knowledge in relation to the physical and mental effects of drug and alcohol use/abuse.
3: To increase knowledge in relation to the different treatments available to people who are misusing drugs and alcohol.
4: To provide information and allow some practical examples on ways of dealing proactively with people who are actively using drugs and alcohol.
5: To discuss and explore the area of harm reduction as it relates to use/misuse of substances.
6: To discuss how to document issues arising from drug or alcohol misuse.
Methodology:
The methodology used in this training will be a combination of the following:
- Participative: The participants will be asked to contribute to the training both in the large group and also in smaller ones. There will be a number of exercises throughout the training that are designed for the group to be split up into smaller groups.
- Experiential: The training will allow participants to contribute by using examples in relation to use/misuse of drugs and alcohol.
- Theory into practice: The training will allow some role plays that will encourage participants to put the theory into practice.
- Information giving: There will be handouts and information on relevant reading that will be emailed to participants.
- Participant led: The training will be flexible to the needs of the group.
Tailoring the training content
As all of our training is bespoke, we will consult you prior to delivery. A review of current practice within your organisation is offered and we aim to build a programme which meets any identified needs.
The Learning Curve Institute also offers a bespoke post-course support system whereby participants are provided with the contact details of the trainer and can contact them with questions they may have at any point subsequent to the training day.
